Collect Information

Border Protection Command maintains an information collection plan which:

• Identifies what information needs to be collected in order to appropriately assess threats to Australia's maritime security and
• Specifies which agency is best placed to undertake the collection task.

The aerial surveillance plan developed by Border Protection Command for the programming of Coastwatch and military maritime patrol aircraft is one part of this overall collection plan.

Information is also gathered from a number of other sources including:

• Space based assets
• Electronic sensors
• Australian Government Vessels
• The shipping industry
• Open source information and
• The public.
