National Surveillance Centre
The National Surveillance Centre is based in Canberra and conducts 24-hour monitoring, coordination and communications support for all offshore protection activities.
Many of Border Protection Command's operational activities are determined by the surveillance and response needs of its partner agencies. Each agency is required to develop risk assessments and assess its own surveillance (threat identification) requirements. Border Protection Command uses these risk assessments and surveillance requests to develop the strategic aerial surveillance program.
Border Protection Command's regional bases in Cairns, Darwin, Broome and Thursday Island:
- provide operational planning and flight briefings for contractor aircraft assigned to the regional bases and
- liaise with locally based partner agencies and contractors.
